Chainstitch Service

Superdenim offers a collaboration chainstitching service, working alongside Department of Works to bring you a unique service.

Japanese denim generally has a 36 inch inseam. Whilst this may be fine for some people, many people fret about having their jeans altered for fear of losing the original hem.

Chain-stitching is the original hemming method used by vintage brands all all Japanese repro brands, that chains two threads together to create a more durable and flexible hem with a "roping" effect after being washed or soaked. The Union Special 43200G is one of the original machines used to create a chain-stitch hem on denim.

In Japan, every denim store offers the service as standard but it is only recent the service is available in UK via D.o.W.

Thread sourced from the actual supplier is used, this thread originates from Okayama, Japan.

How it Works:

Buy your jeans from superdenim. These will then be delivered direct to you.

Check that everything fits. You might want to give your denim a soak to allow for the first wash shrinkage or keep them dry and check the shrinkage in our size guide which can be considered when measuring your inseam.

Measure the amount you would like the jeans shortened by.
